SHILLONG, MAR 18: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Meghalayaa will be fielding a retired Indian Forest Officer (IFS) Armerington Kharshiing as its candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat. The party however decided not to put up any candidate from the Tura Parliamentary seat

AAP said that the manifesto of the party for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 9 will be based on the suggestions provided by the people of the state while pledging to fight and eradicate corruption.

“We are coming up with a manifesto which will reflect the issues concerning the people of the state,” AAP Meghalaya Chief Coordinator Amos Kharshiing told reporters at a news conference held here.

He said, “The party also appeals to the public to send their suggestions and issues related to their problems so that the party will be able to frame those issues in our manifesto,” adding “We want to change the system by fulfilling the aspiration of the people especially the suppressed section of the society.”

According to him, unlike other parties who brings their issues before the public, the APP is not drafting its own manifesto and wants to concentrate on issues concerning the people by allowing people to tell and bring their issues forward.

The last date for submitting the suggestions to the party has been fixed till March 22, he informed.

Determined to fight against corruption, Kharshiing said, “Demanding for a strong and effective Lokayukta Act will be one of the top priority issues to be taken up by the party besides fighting corruptions in the different departments of the state.”

Stating that the party is financial weak, he said that the party is determined to go to election without any money as it does not want to build an empire with money.

Kharshiing also said that the party which was established by people who are champions of RTI and formed the India Against Corruption is trying to bring a right political system in place.

“We are trying to bring right leaders and we can achieve this only with the support of the people,” he said.

Kharshiing is going to contest against sitting Congress MP Vincent H Pala, UDP candidate Paul Lyngdoh and Rev PBM Basaiawmoit, an independent candidate projected by the Common People’s Front (CPF).

He said that he is confident that party will be able to garner support of the people in the upcoming elections. – By Our Reporter
