Abductees’ body recovered

TURA, JAN 3: Police on Saturday found a body of a 39-year old Waljen Marak from Rongap village in East Garo hills.  Marak was a resident of Norek Bolongre and was abducted by armed miscreants early morning on Saturday from his house. Norek Bolongre village is near Songsak, about 90 km from Tura.

Police say that the area is a GNLA stronghold and the murder and abduction was handiwork of the outfit led by area commander Jimmy Momin.

“He was taken from his house at about 3:30 am from where they took him to Rongap, near the NH 44 and shot him near the bridge. We suspect the killing could be due to the non payment of demand or the suspicion of him being a police informer. However we are yet to ascertain the outfit behind the killing of Marak”, said Davies Marak, East Garo hills SP.

Police also recovered five empty cases of an AK along with 2 live rounds from the incident spot.- From Our Correspondent
