Abhishek terms NPP as ‘puppet party’

SHILLONG, JAN 24: Opposition AITC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday asked the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to concentrate on his election campaigning because it is only a matter of time that his MDA government will be ousted from power.

He was reacting to Conrad’s allegation that many leaders of the AITC are already planning to desert the party once elections are over.

Stating that it was very unbecoming of a chief minister to believe and listen to market rumours, Abhishek said, “…if you are only talking bad about the people of the state, you’re ending up belittling the people of Meghalaya, you’re ending up deliberating the people of the state, you’re ending up trash talking about your own colleagues that is extremely unbecoming of a chief minister.”

“I can only tell him (CM) to concentrate on his campaign as now NPP is no more National People’s Party it has become National Puppet’s Party and it is only a matter of time that this My Development Alliance government is ousted and a true government which will work towards the all-round development of a state is established,” he said.

He further alleged the chief minister of being perplexed, bewildered and scared ahead of the assembly polls.

On the NPP terming the We Card and MYE Card scheme as “baaki cards”, the AITC general secretary said that these are not promises but pledges that the AITC will do in Meghalaya.

“When we released the manifesto before the Bengal elections, the chairperson of the party was only promising to give one woman in every household. After coming to power in three months, she has made sure that every woman in the state is covered under the scheme.”

Stating that this will literally happen in Meghalaya too, Abhishek said, “One woman in every household will get Rs 1,000 monthly and Rs 12,000 annually and it will be the first decision that cabinet will take and it will not even take 100 days it will be executed within the first two weeks of forming the government I can assure you that.”

Assuring the people that the AITC will ensure that Meghalaya will be ruled by Meghalayans, he said, “Will BJP have the guts to come to Bengal and say it will be ruled by people of Bengal. Will any leaders from BJP have the guts to say Meghalaya will not be ruled from the ivory towers of Delhi or Guwahati and Meghalaya will be ruled from Garo, Khasi and Jaintia.”

Abhishek said that the AITC is leaving no stone unturned in fighting the elections in the NE states.

“Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya elections are happening simultaneously at the same time and we are leaving no stone unturned. Wherever TMC is starting their journey, we are leaving no stone unturned in fighting the elections with all our might available at our disposal,” he added.
