After landslide, CM orders inquiry

SHILLONG, JUNE 17: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has ordered an immediate enquiry into the safety auditing of the Industrial units following today’s tragic incident in which five people were killed in a massive landslide.

 

 

 

Sangma said the enquiry is necessary to ensure that the industrial units conform to the parameters of safety requirements and be resilient to withstand any instances of disaster.

 

 

 

The chief minister also expressed deep anguish and condole the unfortunate loss of precious lives in separate landslides at Veneer Product Private Limited MIDC Area Umiam, Ri Bhoi and Lumkyntong Village under Sohra Civil Sub Division.

 

 

 

He has conveyed his deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved families and prays that the Almighty God grant strength and solace to all the families who lost their loved ones due to these tragedies.

 

 

 

It may be recalled that the State Government has already notified the State Disaster Management Authority to ensure risk reduction during disasters and for having an efficient disaster response system.
