Accused cop surrendered

SHILLONG, AUG 5: Absconded accused constable, who recently gunned down a havildar at the 3rd Meghalaya Police Battalion located at Sahbsein village in West Jaintia Hills District, surrendered before the West Garo Hills police.

Lusen A Sangma, a battalion constable surrendered himself at Phulbari Police station and was immediately handed over to Jowai police on August 3, police said.

They said on his leading, the SLR rifle with which he shot the havildar was also recovered from a bush near the Campus at Sahbsein village.

On July 30, Sangma fired at Havildar Litsingh Inghi while he was sitting along with two of his subordinates were sitting in his room at the top floor. Sangma, who also fired with his service rifle another 15 plus rounds at the ground floor of the building, fled away after committing the crime.

Havildar Litsingh succumbed to his injuries.
