SHILLONG, MAY 31: BJP national spokesperson and Meghalaya in-charge Nalin Kohli today claimed that even people in the ruling Congress shares a common agenda to ensure that the Mukul led government does not come back to power.

“Whether it is pre-poll or post-poll or no alliance, everyone’s agenda which includes even people in the Congress is that Mukul government should not be in power,” Kohli told reporters on Wednesday.

He also claimed that a lot of the Congress leaders are in touch with the BJP as they are “frustrated”.

While announcing that the BJP is all geared up to fight the 2018 state elections alone, the national spokesperson hinted a possibility of a post-poll alliance with other political parties.

“We are aiming to go alone there is no question about it but closer to the elections, if we feel that the agenda of defeating Mukul Sangma government requires a common front, we can discuss at that time,” he said.

Asked, Kohli said that there is no fixed rule in politics adding that in many places the BJP had gone pre-poll alliance and also alone while in some post-poll alliance.

On the recent pre-poll alliance between two regional parties – UDP and HSPDP, he said that there are no contradictions as the BJP is looking forward to contest from the maximum number of seats.

Stating that the same story will be for parties like NPP and UDP who are part of the BJP led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), Kohli said because NEDA is not a political alliance, it is merely a forum for development of the North East.

“If there is no political alliance then how can there be any question about what the political parties does with their own political agenda,” he said.

He said that BJP leader from Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma is master of elections and political work in the NE region, which the party thanked the Congress as good people don’t last in the Congress.

“The BJP welcomes good people and we have got good government in Assam and Manipur and now we are targeting Meghalaya and Tripura,” Kohli added.
