Assembly to hold spl session

SHILLONG, JAN 10: A special session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held on January 20, for ratification of the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2019 which relates to the extension of reservation of seats for the.

This was informed by the Assembly’s Commissioner & Secretary Andrew Simons on Friday.

The Bill seeks to extend the reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies by another ten years till January 25, 2030.

“The Bill was passed by both Houses of Parliament in December, last year and it has now to be ratified by State Assemblies before it is presented to the President for his assent,” Simons said in a statement here.
