SHILLONG, MAY 21: Along with the rest of the nation, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Tuesday observed the Martyrdom Day of Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi & Anti Terrorism Day at Congress Bhawan, Shillong.

Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest,  Victor Keishing,  Secretary, All India Congress Committee I/c Meghalaya, took pride in the fact that he belonged to the Indian National Congress, which was upholding the Constitution of India and looking after the rights and privileges of all sections of the people, irrespective of the caste, creed, religious, faith and culture. It was condemnable that a section of political leadership
belonging to the opposite camp have unleased campaign to vilify not only Mahatma Gandhi but other stalwarts including late Rajiv Gandhi. He hoped that the results of the General Elections to be declared on 23 rd May 2019, would uphold the principles which were laid down by the stalwarts of the party.
He also administered Anti-Terrorism Pledge to the members. Shri James S. Lyngdoh, Hon’ble Working President, MPCC who chaired the meeting, spoke of the all round contributions of Rajiv Gandhi, towards peace, prosperity &progress of the nation. Others who spoke on the occasion included, H.M. Shangpliang, MLA, P.T. Sawkmie, MLA, Dr M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, MLA,  Bansharai Pyngrope, President, NSUI Meghalaya, Mebaailang Kharkongor, President, Shillong City Mahila Congress, who touched upon the multifaceted personality of Late Rajiv Gandhi.

Prominent those who attended the meeting included Charles Pyngrope MLA, President Shillong City Congress Committee, Charles Marngar, MDC, Mawhati, Office Bearer & Executive Members of Meghalaya PCC, Shillong City DCC, BCCs &Frontal Organisation.
Auguster Jyrwa, General Secretary, Shillong City DCC proposed vote of thanks. The programme started with singing of ‘Bande Mataram’, lighting of the ceremonial lamp &offering of floral tribute before the portrait Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi and ended with National Anthem.
