Attacked trader succumb to burn injuries

Shillong, October 26: Vikash Nandwal- who suffered serious burn injuries after miscreants set him on fire- succumbed to his burn injuries after battling for life for more than sixteen days in a New Delhi hospital. He breathed his last at around 8 am on Saturday.

He was cremated in Delhi and his mortal remains will be taken to his home town Harayana. His relatives and well wishers in Shillong will be holding a candle light at Khyndailad- Police Bazaar- in his memory at around 7 pm on Saturday. They have appealed to everyone from all the communities to join them for the candle light prayers.

Vikash Nandwal was shifted at Max hospital from a Guwahati hospital. It is learnt from the deceased relatives that the condition of Vikash had deteriorated and he was put on ventilator.

The attack on Vikash Nandwal took place at his shop Meghalaya Machineries in Mothphran on October 9 when miscreant entered the shops and poured petrol and set him on fire. The incident had sent a shockwave in the city and happened when the demand for Inner Line Permit was at its height.

Soon after the incident, police arrested KSU Mawprem circle executive members Wankerlang Jyrwa (24) and Badonkupar Nongbri on suspicion of their involvement.

As news of the Nandwal demise spread in Shillong, Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri along with urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh rushed to the residence of the deceased and offered their condolences.- By Our Reporter
