AYUSH docs under scanner

SHILLONG, AUG 18:  The Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) wants state government’s intervention into the alleged irregularities and anomalies related to the appointment of AYUSH doctors in the health centres in the different parts of Garo hills.

“The appointment of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Sidha & Homeopathy) doctors under Rashtya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) scheme in all Primary Health Centre (PHCs) and Community Health Centre (CHCs) of Garo Hills is ‘unsatisfactory’,” GHSMC chairman Nikman Ch Marak said in a letter submitted to the State Health Minister AL Hek recently.

Marak also alleged that the appointment procedure of the doctors seemed to lack transparency, as no advertisement in any form has been given by the appointing authorities before taking interview for the same.

“Unlike the appointment of jobs in various Govt departments and Govt schemes the appointment process of AYUSH doctors in Garo hills is without the proper procedure or may be by tricks,” he added.

The GHSMC chairman claimed that as per their enquiry with concerned authority related to the eligibility for appointing in job and studying AYUSH, it is found that the authority is ignorant regarding the genuineness of the documents as to where the AYUSH University is registered.

“Due to this, there is a doubt by the general public with respect to the genuineness of academic documents of AYUSH doctors presently working under the aforesaid scheme in all district of Garo Hills,” Marak stated.

He said, “It is also learnt that the AYUSH doctors working under this very scheme is ignorant of their duties, lacks mere knowledge related to medical practice which is primary duties of doctors.” He also alleged AYUSH doctors of some hospital appointed recently have submitted forged documents.

According to him, this is an act of irresponsibility on the part of the appointing authority as the verification of the academic documents should have been verified thoroughly before giving appointment.

Therefore, Marak demanded that the government should immediately take necessary step and taken necessary action on those found to be guilty within seven days from the receipt of letter failing which the GHSMC shall resorts to democratic agitation.- By Our Reporter
