SHILLONG, AUG 18: Concerned over shops and business establishment remaining close during bandh in Ampati, Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma has mooted the establishment of departmental stores which will be leased out to public and Self Help Group (SHG) with certain conditions.

The chief minister gave the direction to the district administration of South West Garo hills during a review meeting at Ampati circuit house with the district heads on Monday night.

During the meeting Sangma emphasized on the need for shops to remain open during bandhs and agitations to bolster public morale and recommended the establishment of departmental shops which would be leased out to public, especially the self-help groups with certain parameters.

The terms of conditions would be strategized in a way that lease for defaulters whose close remains shop during bandhs and agitations would be revoked, Sangma stated.He further stated that to restrict monopolizing, sale of organic agri-horti produces would be encouraged besides groceries and instructed the district administration to identify suitable land for the project.

Sangma also deliberated on the land acquisition process for Facilitation Centres along entry and exit points to contain illegal immigration and influx and for GAD residential complexes. He urged the district administration to take this direction at a priority basis and expedite the process.

Concerned over the rise of Japanese Encephalitis in South West Garo hills, Sangma also asked the district administration and the department concerned on the measures taken to control its spread. He also reviewed the progress of  various departmental schemes being implemented in the district.- By Our Reporter
