BJP soft on state govt on militancy issue

SHILLONG, JAN 16: State Bharatiya Janata Party showed a soft corner towards the Congress led state government by choosing not to criticize it for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

While stating that the law and order situation in the state is going from bad to worse, newly appointed State BJP President Shibun Lyngdoh said, “I would not criticize the state government with the hope that corrective measures would be adopted by the government in containing the situation especially in Garo Hills.”

“We are not criticizing because the government is taking steps on the matter and it is also because we want peace and solution,” Lyngdoh, who assumed charge of office here, told reporters.

Condemning the recent blast at Williamnagar which injured several civilians, the BJP state leader said, “The common people irrespective of caste, creed and community have lost confidence on the present government because it has miserably failed to combat militancy.”

According to him, due to militant activities, developmental activities could not be accelerated.

Stating that the state BJP is not having any soft corner for the state government but it is not criticizing it simply because BJP is not a problem creator, Lyngdoh said, “If the state government wants the support of the BJP, we would be willing to sit and discuss to find out solution to the problem.”

“We have to see what is the real problem of militancy… may be we have to look into the involvement of foreign country like ISI,” he said.

When asked on the stand of the BJP on the alleged politico-militant nexus, he said, “We still stand on what we maintained that this nexus should be investigated by the CBI or NIA. We have conveyed this to the Ministry of Home Affairs but they are yet to depute the central team.”

Further, the BJP also demand investigation in the education scam be expedited and the culprits be immediately brought to book. “We want judicial inquiry into the education scam,” Lyngdoh said.

Also demanding the state government to come up with an ‘economic policy’, he said, “This will ensure comprehensive development for the citizens especially fir the educated unemployed youth.”

He said that at present the state government is totally apathetic towards the plight of the common man and the youth are going astray in want of jobs and employment as there is no specific policy.

Stating that the inter-state border problem has created insecurity in the minds of the people residing in the border areas, the BJP state president said, “We want immediate solution to the problem as the Congress party is ruling in both Meghalaya and Assam.”

However, the BJP was silent when it comes to the proposed fencing on the Indo-Bangla international border.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh expressed confident that under his leadership, the party would be strengthen in every corner of the state.

“We expect that the lotus blooms in every corner of the state. We will move to every villages and districts of the state to tell the people that the BJP is a national party and is for the development of the people,” he said.-By Our Reporter
