SHILLONG, FEB 15: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) East Jaintia Circle on Monday opposed the move to set up a BSF camp and also its sector headquarters at Umkyrdein (Shilliang Umshong-Lumskhen).
“We vehemently oppose setting up of the BSF camp in the area,” HYC-EJC general secretary Arky Lamare said in a statement on Monday. He said that the coming of the BSF camp in the area will not bring any sort of development to the people.
“We have seen that the presence of such forces has only been regretted. Shillong, whose lands have also been acquired by the forces, is now facing the brunt,” Lamare said adding “The indigenous people will only lose their right over their lands, if they are allowed to be acquired by these forces.”
Informing that a public hearing is likely to take place on February 18, the general secretary appealed to all the residents of the different villages to attend the meeting in order to protest against such move to allow the BSF to set up its camp in the area.
Further, the HYC also condemned the headman and former chairman of the Musniang village for allegedly backstabbing the people and the village just for their own personal interest.-By Our Reporter
