Bus Accident : Fifteen bodies claimed

Shillong, August 9: Fifteen of the bodies of the night super bus accident victims have been claimed by their relatives. The remaining bodies are yet to be claimed said East Jaintia hills district Superintendent of Police MK Dkhar on Thursday afternoon.

Dkhar told Oh! Meghalaya that the claimants of the fifteen bodies are from Karimganj, Silchar and Agartala. He said, “ We are still waiting for the relatives to come and claim the remaining bodies.”

On Wednesday morning the night super bus that was going towards Tripura from Guwahati fell deep down on the gorge in Sonapur, in the newly created district of East Jaintia hills. Thirty people died on the spot and the remaining 26 were injured.

Asked whether the police have been able to identify the cause of the accident, Dkhar said, “We are still investigating as to how the accident occurred.” He said the police have not spoken to the survivors of the bus accidents as according to him they are still in a “state of shock.”

When queried whether the night super bus was overload as there appeared to be around fifty-six passengers, Dkhar said, “ We will not be able to tell unless we get the information from the agency which run the service.” He said the police have already asked the Sherowali bus agency in Guwahati to provide details.-By Our Reporter
