SHILLONG, JUNE 28: The state forest department has started its cleanup operation to seize illegal charcoal stock from West Khasi Hills, officials today informed. Over 20 metric tons of illegal charcoal from three villages – Porla, Seinduli and Theipjaphlang- in the district has been seized by the officials and staff of DFO Khasi Hills (T) Division, they said.

The officials also destroyed charcoal making pits in these areas. The charcoal was seized for violating Rule 3 of Meghalaya Charcoal Rules 2008.-By Our Reporter
