Citizens’ right to hoist flag

SHILLONG, AUG 5: West Jaintia hills deputy commissioner has informed that citizens of Jowai town who would like to hoist the national flag at their homes, building and establishments round the year starting from August 15 has the right to do so.

He said the right has been given to citizens after the Supreme Court who declared that the Right to Fly National Flag is a fundamental right of every citizen within the wider definition of Article 19 of the Constitution of India and should be done with “respect and dignity” and rules made under a flag dode of India 2002.

He also informed that the citizens who wish to buy the national flags can get it from M/s C P Enterprises (Ph- 9862042360) and M/s K/Lato (Ph-9862049493) at 10% discount on the retail price. The Deputy Commissioner has also  invited all citizen of the district particularly of Jowai Town to join with the district administration and to start flying the tricolor at their homes, buildings, institutions, establishments from August 15 to make Jowai a model town.-By Our Reporter
