CM on nominated MDCs

SHILLONG, DEC 4: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Friday said the state government is responsible for the appointment of a nominated MDC in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). “If you look at the rules, in respect of appointment of a nominated MDC in KHADC, the responsibility is with the government,” Sangma told reporters.

Sangma, however, downplayed by saying, “In the past also, we have been in a hurry in appointing a nominated MDC.”

“If you look at the timing of the appointment of the earlier nominated MDC in respect of KHADC, we did not immediately resort to nominating person to fill up that vacancy,” he said adding “Therefore, this are all done in a manner which basically serve the purpose and objective.”

He, however, added, “Ideally these are political decisions and it’s for the executive to implement certain things in sync with whatever ultimately emerges through consultation and discussion and that is how we do.”

When asked, the chief minister said, “In as far as GHADC is concerned, they have their own rules which have been appropriated to give effect to the recommendation of the executive committee of the concerned ADC… It’s different rules for different ADCs.”-By Our Reporter
