BAGHMARA, DEC 7: In a daring kidnapping, a coal exporter identified as Akhtar D Shira was abducted from the center of Baghmara town on Friday from his residence. The incident took place at around 7 pm when armed men barged into the house of the exporter and dragged him from in front of his family at gun point.  Shira is a a resident of Baghmara and lives just  about 200 metres from the Baghmara Civil hospital.
Incidentally, rumours have been circulating that the businessman had been served a demand note but had not paid.  It is understood that the kidnapping was retaliation to the businessman’s refusal to comply with the demand.
The residents were tight lipped about the incident for fear of backlash but it is suspected that the GNLA is behind the kidnapping. It is however unclear as to how many militants came to abduct Shira. – By Our Reporter
