Shillong, December 8: Intensifying its stir the pro-ILP ngos who are demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya has called for a thirty six hours bandh in Khasi, Jainitia , Ri Bhoi except in Garo hills districts from 5 am of December 10 to 5 pm on December 11.

In the five districts of Garo hills, the ngos have decided to call for ten hours road blockade has been announced which will start from 8 pm to 5 am on 10 and 11 December.

The bandh and road blockade will be followed by statewide office picketing on December 13.

The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) general secretary Wellbirth Rani said in a statement issued on Sunday the decision for calling bandh, road blockade and office picketing was taken during the meeting of the thirteen pro-ILP ngos.

Rani informed that the pro-ILP ngos have decided to intensify their stir to protest against the insensitiveness of the Congress led state government headed by Mukul Sangma to the demand for the implement of ILP in in the state..

Rani also said that the thirteen ngos rejected the claims purportedly made by the union home ministry joint secretary (North East) Shambhu Singh who in a letter to the state government is said to have said that the centre is not willing to implement the ILP in Meghalaya.

Rani asserted, “Such statement is not at all acceptable and he is only trying to mislead the indigenous populace of the state since the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act 1873 is very much in existence till today.” – By Our Reporter
