SHILLONG, OCT 14: In a major setback to the Congress, five MDCs on Friday resigned as a mark of protest against the decision to suspend the KHADC chief Pynshngain N Syiem from the party.

Syiem, who is leading the ruling Congress led People Democratic Front (PDF) in the KHADC, is considered to be a ‘hero’ for his firm stand against the anti-dual post Act passed by the state government last year.

The five MDCs who resigned includes  Neil Antonio War from Laitumkhrah constituency, Banteidor Lyngdoh from Mawkynrew, Hadrian Lyngdoh from Mawkyrwat, Albinus Lyngdoh from Umroi and Victor Rani from Jirang.

All of them are holding the post of executive members in the PDF led executive committee in the KHADC.

The decision was taken hours after the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Party (MPCC) convened a meeting to kick start its campaign for the upcoming district council bye-elections slated on December 13.

MPCC chief DD Lapang has claimed that the Congress is united and is sure to win from all the seven vacant seats in the by polls.

“We have decided to tender our resignations as a mark of protest against the move to suspend Syiem,”  War said. He informed that the resignation letters have been submitted to the MPCC president DD Lapang.

He said that the decision was taken after they were informed about the move of the MPCC to suspend the KHADC chief during a meeting called at the residence of the president DD Lapang, which is still going on at the moment.

War informed that the party alleged Syiem for anti-party activities. When asked, he, however, said, “The five MDCs have decided to extend full support to the PDF.”-By Our Reporter
