CSWO demands investigation

SHILLONG, JAN 6: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) has sought the intervention of the state’s chief secretary for investigation into the alleged corruption of a police officer.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing alleged that one Amit Sinha, a police in-charge of Kahpmara, Umroi had snatched the mobile phone of Kronding Nongbsap, headman of Syllei-U-Lar, Umroi on December 30, last year.

She said on the same day, Kronding Nongbsap has taken videos of trucks passing through the Dwar Ksuid bridge in violation of the orders issued that trucks should not cross beyond capacity of 10 MT over this bridge as it is dilapidated and could be dangerous to carry beyond the issued directions.

According to her, Sinha had snatched the mobile phone in the presence of Banjop Maring of Ri Bhoi.

“We are told that Kronding Nongbsap had called up Amit Sinha, and spoke to him about police personnel checkgate in the bridge so that orders are not violated and so that commuters are not obstructed by these trucks. Kronding also called up DC Ri Bhoi but got no response, and he also called SP Ribhoi and spoke to him. Instead after speaking to SP Ri Bhoi, while Kronding was waiting in the bridge to wait for response from SP, Banjop Maring and Amit Sinha came and Amit Sinha snatched the mobile of Kronding. We are also told that one Harinder Singh Senior manager corporations of North East carrier Pvt ltd filed FIR against Kronding Nongbsap…,” Kharshiing said.

The CSWO also strongly condemned the threat to common man by a police in uniform who according to the organization should be serving in the interest of the public and not the violators and trying to abuse his power and snatching the mobile which is an evidence for the violators who were putting danger over the Dwar Ksuid bridge which could be also putting lives in danger.

“We urge Chief Secretary to investigate on Corruption of Amit Sinha and his links with those who are trying to violate the Government orders and urge that sincere police officers are appointed to investigate in the deep corruption, in order that contents of mobile may not be deleted, which may falsely accuse by framing Kronding Nongbsap, who is only getting videos to show the facts over the Dwar Ksuid Bridge,” Kharshiing said.
