Shillong, November 4: After cases of dengue fever were reported in West Garo hills districts, the state health department rushed a team of Rapid Response Team (RRT). The RRT team is headed by Directorate of Health Services (DHS) joint director R Budnah.
State health & family welfare minister AL Hek informed reporters on Monday the team will review the situation of dengue fever in the district. Eighteen cases of dengue fever were reported in last one week.
Hek said most of the cases were reported from the West Garo hills district of the state.
The first suspected case of dengue was detected on October 18 when a young boy was brought to Tura Civil hospital with symptoms of high fever, joint pain and headache.
Hek said that the state government has sounded a dengue alert in all the districts after the occurrence of the disease in the West Garo Hills
Hek also informed that of 18 cases reported, 17 of them were discharged from the hospital but are still under medication and these patients had mild symptoms.
In order to make the people aware of the disease officials from the health & family welfare department are issuing public notices to alert people about the disease.
Many guidelines have also been issued to the people of the Garo hills districts to protect themselves from Dengue fever.
People have also been asked to clean and cover water storage containers, to keep their surroundings clean and improve basic sanitation measures — removing, disposing, burying or burning all unused cans, jars, bottles, tyres, coconut shells and other items that can collect and hold water.
Common symptoms of Dengue include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains and skin rash. There is no vaccine for dengue and the only way to reduce infections is to improve hygiene levels so as to prevent mosquito bites and stop mosquitoes from breeding.- By Our Reporter
