SHILLONG, FEB 24: A polling officer M Markna  of Wahlynkhat polling station under Pynursla constituency in East Khasi Khasi hills district was arrested for dereliction of duty.
Confirming this, East Khasi hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that the officer was arrested after Markna was found drunk during the duty.
Goyal said that the officer was also taken for medical checkup.
Necessary action as per rule will be taken against the presiding officer for dereliction of duty; Goyal said adding that he has also sent magistrates to the place to ensure that elections are not interrupted.
Goyal also informed that he has sent a replacement to the polling station so that the voting process is not affected.- By Our Reporter
