The first glass mosque in the country Medina Mosque inaugurated on Thursday by union minister of state Vincent Pala in Shillong

Shillong, Oct 18: Inaugurating the first ever glass mosque “Medina Mosque” in the country Thursday by the Umshyrpi steam,   Union Minister of State for water resources Vincent Pala said that the “mosque will mark the unity of all religions in the state.” He underscored the uniqueness of the mosque and also its spirit.

The 120-feet tall magnificent Medina Mosque would also allow women to offer prayers besides housing an orphanage and a library.

“It will also be a tourist destination,” said legislator Syeedullah Nongrum, who is also president of the Shillong Muslim Union.

Amid recital from the Holy Koran, the mosque, which is one of the biggest in the northeast and the first in the region to open its doors to women worshipers, stood glittering in daylight as well as night with its illuminated reflections.

On the other hand, addressing the ‘Get together of harmony’ heralding in the Pujas at the Gorkha Durga Mandir in the city, Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary said that the ‘Sanatan Dharma’ was indeed a “way of life, which inspires to be one with cosmic forces”.

Quoting extensively from the Bhagavad Gita, Mooshahary said Krishna had promised to salvage humanity, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

Sanatan Dharma is part of evolution and is ‘anadi’ (with no beginning) and ‘apurush’ (with no human founder) Mooshahary underscored even as he mentioned that the word ‘Dharma’ was derived from ‘Dhri’, which means “to hold together” and therefore, not alluding to any particular religion.

Quoting from different religious texts, including Islam, Christianity and Buddhism, Mooshahary said “all faiths were based on compassion.”

The founder chief of the elite National Security Guard (NSG) and former director general of the Border Security Force (BSF), Mooshahary also appealed against the practice of animal sacrifice and urged people to heed to the advice of Shree Krishna to offer only flowers, leaves and live by “purity of heart” and “sincerity of intention”. – By Our Reporter
