First govt run IT training centre operational

Shillong, November 24: The first government run IT Training Centre in Meghalaya started functioning in Williamnagar. The Williamnagar IT training centre is established under the Chief Minister Career Guidance Scheme. Classes for the first batch of 20 students started on November 20.

The admission into Williamnagar IT Training Centre, which is established and managed by East Garo hills district administration, is entirely free of cost. Any student belonging to East Garo hills district who has passed HSSLC (10+2) is eligible to seek admission. Highly qualified trainers including Enoch Sangma, the district information officer of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) are presently taking classes.

The district administration is intending to invite professionals from outside Meghalaya once it starts Advanced IT Courses. The training centre is presently offering Basic Course in IT, which consists of Basic Computer Operation skills, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and  DTP are taught. This basic course is structured in a way to provide sufficient skills and confidence to a student to seek IT related employment or take professional IT Courses. This is a great opportunity for the youth in an insurgency affected district to equip them with IT skill that would make them employable.

Meghalaya minister of sports & youth affairs Zenith Sangma had inaugurated the Training Centre during his recent visit to Williamnagar. Presently the district administration has received more than hundred applications and because of the number of applications, the district administration is intending to start more than two parallel batches.- By Our Reporter
