Ganja gang apprehended by HYC in Bhoi

ganjaSHILLONG, NOV 28: Five persons, including two women, were apprehended along with 10 kilos of ganjas by the members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) from Khanapara in Ri Bhoi district.

The two women have been identified as Nimai Rabha and Jayanta Chetri, both of 8th Mile, Khanapara.

The other apprehended persons include Barlish Pushain (50) of Killing village, Vicky Pradhan and Biky Saha of 8th Mile.

“We have also seized a huge amount of ganja about 10 kilos from their possession,” HYC president from the area Amberligh Masharing said. He informed that persons along with the ganjas were handed over to the police for necessary action as per law.

According to him, the HYC members has decided to conduct the checking in one of the residence of the accused, one week after a cameraman of local news channel (T7 News) was assaulted and threatened with dire consequences by miscreants at Khanapara.

Based on inputs from sources, the cameraman (whose name was not revealed) was on a stink operation to capture on tape the illegal business that is being carried out rampantly in the area.

“We then deputed our members to the area in which they could manage to catch hold of the five persons who are allegedly operating the illegal business,” he said.

According to the president, the ganjas, which were properly wrap in papers and rags were hidden in a drain and ceiling of a tin roof. He informed one of the accused, Pushain had also revealed before the members that he was just a peddler to market the ganjas in Khanapara area.

“According to Pushain, the main supplier of the ganja was from Shillong, who is also being identified as Kong Eva,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police have also arrested an 18 year old youth who was involved in assaulting the cameraman, who lodged a complaint against the assault.- By Our Reporter
