Govt thinking of setting up ‘Flying School’

TURA, FEB 12: Meghalaya chief minister, Mukul Sangma said the state government is contemplating establishment of a flying school in the state as there are lots of job opportunities in the aviation sector which the youths of can take advantage.

Sangma said this during address to a young gathering at the distribution of tablet to the Class XII students of West Garo hills. He and other dignitaries also handed over selection letter to the students for medical and engineering entrance examination held under chief minister’s career guidance scheme.

The state government started the digital learning aid programme in the state in 2012. The tablet is loaded with study material, course curriculum of higher secondary and various competitive examinations. In the eleven district of the state, over 50,000 tablets have been distributed so far.

In Thursday’s programme held at SMELC building Dakopgre over 5000 students were present. The tablets were distributed by chief minister and other dignitaries including sports and youth affairs minister Zenith Sangma, chief advisor to the government DD Lapang and AICC secretary in-charge of Meghalaya Narayan Swamy.

Terming that it a big responsibility for the government to fulfill the aspiration of the younger generation, Sangma said, “It was a massive challenge to respond to the need of the younger generation to empower them with much needed skill and knowledge. However, we have been able to do it. It is therefore responsibility of the students to take advantage of the avenues made available to them”.

The chief minister’s career guidance scheme aims to impart coaching and career guidance from upper primary to graduation level. It also imparts coaching for various competitive and entrance examinations.

Sangma also urged different organizations to partner with the government in realizing their dreams. In rural areas of the state, the youths have no access to coaching and career guidance programme. “Interested partner should come forward and take advantage and provide the array of opportunities and awareness to the youths”, he said.

Sangma informed that the ambitious schemes have been replicated by other states to respond to the need of the students.- From Our Correspondent
