SHILLONG, APR 3: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday sought the support and cooperation of the traditional institutions to ensure the inter-state movement is totally stopped following sudden upsurge of COVID-19 cases in the Northeast.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said that inter-state movement has to be totally stopped especially with the spread of coronavirus disease in neighbouring Assam.
He however said that the state government cannot do that alone in view of the fact there is no proper fencing between the two states and fencing is even yet to be completed in some stretch of the international border between Bangladesh and India.
“That is why we need the cooperation of the concerned local dorbar or village authority and my humble request to all of them is to let us work day and night and make sure that those people who are trying to come into Meghalaya should be stopped and not allowed to enter into their respective villages,” Tynsong said.
“Let us not be complacent, let us work and fight against this disease. This is my appeal to all rangbah shnong and local authorities that we should be more pro active as now we are approaching to the date where the GOI has already announced the lockdown,” he said.
He said another 11 days to go before the lockdown period ends on April 14 adding “I am telling you if we can cross this bridge I am sure we will be saved. I would request all stakeholders therefore that we need to be more vigilant on the issue of COVID-19”.
