Gujarat seek farmers’ support

SHILLONG, DEC 6 : A Gujarat government delegation  comprising of MPs, state cabinet minister and MLA are in Shillong seeking the support of the farmers of the  state to build the world’s largest  statue “Statue of Unity”  of India’s iron man Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel.  Talking to newsmen on Friday,  Gujarat social justice and empowerment minister  Ramanlal Vora informed that the foundation stone of the statue was laid by the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the proposed statue will be 182 metres in height.

The statue will be constructed on the banks of  river Narmada . Vora informed that the  Gujarat government will collect soil and water from every  village of India and farmers from all across the county  will donate their agricultural goods  to construct the statue The Gujarat government will also built state convention centre and other infrastructure with an estimated budget of Rs 2000 crore.  Ramanlal Vora said that a national campaign would be run for the  collection of farming tools  as a symbol of contribution.

When inquired if the campaign has hidden agenda of campaigning for Narendra Modi who is the prime ministerial candidate of BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha electons, Vora denied  that the campaign has political intention and said the delegation is visiting the states solely to make people aware about the initiative.  Altogether fifteen teams of Gujarat government are travelling throughout the country to create awareness  about the statue of unity and this particular team has met Assam chief minister and would  visit Nagaland after the visit of Meghalaya.

The Gujarat government is expecting that altogether 120 crore farmer from India would contribute    agricultural goods  to construct the statue of the Iron Man.- By Our Reporter
