HANM stir against DC

NONGSTOIN, SEPT 16: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) West Khasi hills unit on Monday announced office picketing in West Khasi Hills district on September 23 and 24 demanding removal of the district’s deputy commissioner S Kharlyngdoh.

HANM was supposed to stage a sit-in demonstration in DC office premises, but the security personnel did not allow the agitators to enter the campus. The protesters holding black flags then moved to Nongstoin market from where they took out a procession to the basketball court at Ladweitang.

In a meeting after the protest the HANM decided to hold the office picketing.

John Paul K Bani, chief organizing secretary, HANM West Khasi hills condemned the promulgation of 144 CrPC to “curb the democratic protest” by the DC, whom the NGO has branded as a “trouble maker” for unemployed youths and developmental activities in the district.

Justifying its demand for removal of the DC, the HANM pointed out that he has already completed tenure of over three years in the district.- By Our Reporter
