SHILLONG, MAR 6: There is no end to the woes of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council-KHADC- chief executive member Adelbert Nongrum- who is also KHNAM’s MDC-as another All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA) Executive Committee (EC) member and United Democratic Party (UDP) MDC Hadrian Lyngdoh deserted his camp and joined the Congress led People’s Democratic Forum (PDF).

Lyngdoh’s defection to the PDF camp has reduced ARPA to only thirteen MDCs- excluding KHADC chairperson Teilinia Thangkhiew- with the PDF now having sixteen MDCs in a house of thirty, with a nominated member raising the total strength of KHADC to thirty members.

Lyngdoh tendered his resignation to the KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum and UDP parliamentary party leader Teinwel Dkhar on Friday.

Altogether three executive members (EMs) of the ARPA have switched their allegiance to the PDF in a span of 10 days.  Apart from Hadrian, the other two include – Independent MDC from Nongskhen Grace Mary Kharpuri and former KHNAM MDC PT Sawkmie, who is now the present PP leader of the PDF.

Confirming the new development, UDP PP leader Teinwell Dkhar said, “He (Hadrian) had submitted his resignation to the ARPA and an ‘SMS’ that he had has quit as a member of the UDP, without citing any reasons.”

The leaders of the ARPA including the KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum have expressed shocked at the sudden decision of Hadrian to resign from alliance and his party even as the latter failed to pick up their calls to confirmed.

Interestingly despite the political development, Nongrum however claimed that his executive committee is still intact.  He said, “We still hope that we can prevail on two to MDCs.”- By Our Reporter
