SHILLONG, JAN 20: Heroin worth Rs 4 lakh, a Swift ZX AS-01V 832 and Mahendra Rodeo scooter were seized and five people arrested by the police from Madanriting Sunday evening. Police made the big haul after being tipped off.
The arrested have been identified as Niang Simte, Kampal Simte of Madanriting, Hginthian Siam, Nangnelam Simte of Kahilipara in Guwahati and Vungah Simte of Lamka Churachandpur in Manipur. The police are interrogating them.
According to East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang the heroin was filled in sixty containers of the Golden Tobacco weighing 69.87 grams. The police made the seizure and initially arrested three of them from Madanriting Block F at around 5 pm.
Later the police again arrested the remaining two of the drug peddlers from Madanriting block D and both of them came from Manipur.
Madanriting has become a den of drug peddlers in Shillong as there were many arrested an innumerable seizure made earlier. The some of the drug peddlers who were arrested earlier are residents of the locality while others are fly-by-night operators who have a link in the locality and supplies drug to the local drug peddlers.
Most of the purchases of drugs like heroin and other intoxicants are made from Madanriting and drug users often come to the locality to get their stuff from the drug peddlers. Despite innumerable arrest, the drug business seems to flourish.- By Our Reporter
