ILP: Women ngos to protest

SHILLONG, SEPT 22: Two leading women ngos decided to hold a one day ‘sit-in-demonstration’ on September 25 to protest against the Congress led MUA-II government “adamant attitude” to introduce the Inner Line Permit (ILP) for checking unabated illegal influx into the state.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the two women ngos – Khasi Women Welfare and Development Association (KWWADA) and Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) on Sunday.

The sit in protest will be held at the additional secretariat parking lot on September 25.

“We have unanimously decided to stage dharna to protest the adamant attitude of the government, with regards to the legitimate demand of the various organizations on the implementation of the ILP recommended by the High Level Committee, which was initiated by the government itself,” CSWO and KWAADA presidents Agnes Kharshiing and Nebi Rapthap said in a statement.

They said they have decided to hold the protest , “As the Constitution has provided in Article 19 (1) that all citizens shall have the right to assemble peaceably.”  The two women NGO’s also invited all the traditional leaders and concern stakeholders to join and support the move.

The two women leaders said, “We are also inviting all concerned, including women organizations, from all over the state, youths, religious leaders, retired govt servants and people who feel that the adamant attitude of the government is a very wrong sign of governance and which leads to dictatorship.” – By Our Reporter
