JYF threaten to file case

SHILLONG, SEPT 16: The Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) on Tuesday  threatened to file a defamation case against the former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Madonbai Rymbai for leveling false allegations against its president. “We would soon file a defamation case against the former CEM of the JHADC for making false allegations against the organization’s president,” JYF president Poipynhun Majaw told reporters at a news conference on Tuesday.

The decision was taken after the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in its order issued recently disposed off the case filed by the former CEM of JHADC against the president of JYF citing “the allegations made are groundless”.

Earlier, Rymbai had lodged an FIR against Majaw alleging that the latter had demanded an amount of Rs 5 lakh from him besides threatening to spoil his political career.

“The Court has passed an order in my favour stating that all the allegations made by Rymbai are false and baseless,” Majaw said.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate I Rymbai in the order passed has also stated, “There was a delay in lodging an FIR. While the first alleged incident took place on February 2 and the complaint lodged an FIR  on April 15. There was no reasonable explanation in delay of lodging an FIR by the complainant M Rymbai.”

“This court also cannot direct re-investigation in this instant case or to revive the case in near future if there are fresh evidences against the accused (Majaw), in near future because of the allegation made are groundless in th is instant case,” Rymbai said.

Terming the action of Rymbai as nothing but to seek revenge, the JYF president said, the whole episode started just because the JYF had protested against former CEM who as per the RTI finding had misused crores of public money.

An RTI filed by one Arlin Dkhar from Khliehtyrshi village has exposed misappropriation of Rs 1.18 crore by the CEM of JHADC.

According to the RTI report, the Rs 1.18 crore which include Discretionary Grant of Rs 66 lakh and Gratuity Relief of 52.50  lakhs was released to the CEM during May – December 2013.

In another similar scam unearthed by RTI, three RTI activists from Khliehtyrshi filed an FIR against the CEM of JHADC for misappropriation of Rs 1.15 crore released by the state government for land acquisition for the implementation of the proposed Jowai Bye Pass and forgery of land documents belonging to the Lumpohsiej locality in Khliehtyrshi village.

Based on two FIRs lodged by the RTI activists, an enquiry was also instituted by the police department into the twin scam.

The enquiry is being headed by the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and is soon to charge sheet the two cases filed against the former CEM, sources informed.
