KSU withdraw stir for jobs

SHILLONG, NOV 27: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) Nongtrai unit has decided to withdraw its proposed agitation following an announcement for creation of 13 posts by the Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt.Ltd (LUMPL).  “We have decided to withdraw our proposed agitations as a mark of respect to the decision taken by the company,” KSU-NU vice president Wenry Wanrieh said in a statement.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LUMPL has recently announced the creation of 13 posts for accommodating educated unemployed youths from the village.

Earlier the people of Nongtrai village along with the KSU have been organizing series of protests to pressurize the company to provide job opportunities to the young educated youths of the village.

Wanrieh, however, said that the union will continue to take up the issue to ensure that the people of the village get their legitimate rights from the company who sets up shop in their area.
