Lajong eye full points against Air India

Lajong_practiceSHILLONG, JAN 27: Shillong Lajong FC will be looking to pocket full points when they take on Air India in match number 18 of the I-League here at the J. N. Sports Complex here on Monday.

Lajong have not had a good run of late and a win against the eleventh placed side is a must. Lajong, on the other hand, are placed ninth in the 2012-13 edition of the league with 15 points in their kitty. Air India, which have 14 points against their name, should be happy with a draw.

Lajong, of course, were held 1-1 by Air India in their away match. Lajong coach Thongboi Singto said all his players were available for the crucial match. “We hope to pocket full points (from the match),” he said.

Air India’s first choice goalkeeper Sukvinder Singh is unlikely to play since he is nursing an injury. “We have Sukvinder in the squad, but he is unlikely to play since he has a hamstring injury,” said Air India coach Anthony Fernandes.

Singh’s absence should work in Lajong’s favour. However, for that to happen, their profligate forward line must make the most of every opportunity that will come their way. The city club has another four matches at home and five away matches, and they must strive to take the maximum points from their home ties if they do not want to suffer the ignomy of being relegated to a lower division next season.

Air India, meanwhile, have signed an Afgan player under the Asian quota rule, but he is yet to join the club because of problem in getting visa. (By Our Reporter)
