Low turnout in govt offices

TURA, MAR 26: All the five districts in Garo hills were affected today as government offices registered low attendance. The GNLA had called for government office shutdown demanding action against the alleged “fake encounter” at Oragitok village, where one Sengbath Marak, son of village headman was killed.

The outfit has imposed two-day strike for all government office in Garo hills. Barring SP and DC offices almost all government offices registered low attendance.

In South Garo Hills, the deputy commissioner’s office registered 25 per cent attendance, in East Garo Hills it was 20 per cent, North and West Garo Hills registered 50 per cent attendance.

Schools, colleges, banks and market also saw low turnout.  Though the strike was not imposed on them.- From Our Correspondent
