MeECL official abducted

SHILLONG, FEB 4: Suspected ANVC (B) militants is believed to have kidnapped an MeECL contractor Luther Marak but left his colleague Manseng Marak mistaking him to be dead after beating them severely at Satsatgre  village in West Garo Hills district.

Luther Marak and Manseng Marak  had gone to Sasatgre to take up rural lighting programme on Monday, however, they were allegedly beaten up by the ANVC(B) militants who also  looted them and kidnapped Luther Marak.

The whereabouts of Luther Marak is still not known. It is learnt that initially two ANVC(B) militants armed with AK 47s held them at gun point and demanded Rs 10 lakh. However after negotiation they climb down to Rs 1 lakh. But three other militants joined the two and searched the pockets of the two officials.

It is learnt that the militants got Rs 30,000 from the two contractors after which they assaulted the two officials.

Manseng lost his consciousness and the militants mistook him for dead and left him.   When he woke up he ran to the nearest village and then to the Rongram police station to report.

The whereabouts of Luther is not yet known and he is believed to have been kidnapped by the militants.

West Garo hills SP MK Singh said, “We have receive the FIR of the contractor and went there to search for the other person. He could not be found. However, we are unaware if he was killed or kidnapped.”- By Our Reporter
