Control ANVC: ANVC (B)

SHILLONG, AUG 27: The ANVC (B) has asked the Meghalaya government to keep a check on the activities of the A’chik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) alleging that the latter is involved in procuring arms and other illegal activities.

ANVC(B) Rangdo R Marak said in a statement issued on Tuesday, “Government must check these activities as it all seem like a plan to keep the insurgency rein alive even after the final settlement which is still awaiting for the centre’s nod.” Cautioning the government on the activities of ANVC members, Marak alleged that the ANVC are recruiting and procuring arms from an arm supplier known as Belbong who was arrested along with a woman some years before Dilash’s name pop up.

The ANVC (B) also alleged that ANVC cadre Sasan is actively involved in extortion from coal belts including Shallang and procuring arms.

Unlike ANVC (B), the ANVC is getting a chance to rehabilitate it’s cadres through the settlement by enrolling them into police and availing various schemes, Marak stated.

Stating that government must also be cautious of the unscrupulous game as some ANVC members are planning to join GNLA and others are planning to float a new organisation and few to join the police, the ANVC(B) statement said, “We urged the government to do its utmost duty to check all elements that is bound to harm the initiatives taken by the government to usher in peace.”

The release also reiterated that ANVC(B) wants to uphold the agreement for peace and development in the area as violation of the agreement at this point will shatter the hopes of the general public.

The ANVC(B) further alleged that the ANVC ultras are active in things that are “not fair to the society” as its cadres Rocky is active in witchcraft, Jack had a hand in the Bajengdoba killing, James (Togan) is monopolising the supply of vegetables at high rates, not to mention dacoity, threats and kidnappings.

The ANVC(B) statement also quoted its joint secretary asking the ANVC leaders not to allow the situation from slipping further which may throw cold water on the peace initiative if goes uncheck.-By Our Reporter
