MPRO office, petrol pump attacked

GNLA retaliates (1)Shillong, December 11: Two employees sustained bullet injuries when suspected armed cadres of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) attacked a petrol pump at  Charingre village in West Garo hills district on Wednesday morning and also lobbed a petrol bomb at the office. Hours later the GNLA also attacked the Meghalaya Police Radio Office (MPRO) at a neigbouring village Darinchegre.

The attack seems to be reprisals of the SWAT team attacking the GNLA headquarter in East Garo hills on Tuesday.

The Wednesday incident took place at around 8.30 am when two GNLA militants came and started opening fire at the employees of the petrol pump at Charingre village, about 15 kilometers away from Tura, police said. The militants also lobbed grenade at the petrol pump office but fortunately nobody was inside. The petrol pump office was damaged. n

It is learnt that the militants were armed with Insas and AK rifle.  The injured identified as Nobo Hajong and Bishwajeet Saha were immediately rush to Tura Civil hospital.

Meanwhile, just hours after the incident at Charingre, the GNLA militants also attacked the Meghalaya Police Radio Office (MPRO) at a neigbouring village Darinchegre.

The incident took place at around 11.30 am. The militants also fired indiscriminately at the MPRO office but luckily no one was injured.

A senior police officer said, security forces have launched intensive operations in and around the areas to nab the militants behind the attacks.- By Our Reporter
