GNLA attacks SWAT team

SHILLONG, DEC 11: The proscribed militant outfit GNLA seems to be unleashing a reign of terror after it’s headquarter was rundown by the SWAT team on Tuesday as the militants ambushed the SWAT team at Nongalbibra in South Garo hills on Wednesday morning. A SWAT commando Donboklang Jana was injured and he was shifted to Williamnagar from where he has been airlifted to be admitted in a Guwahati hospital.

The SWAT team who was returning after an operation against the GNLA was attacked at around 11:30 am. The attack was the third during Wednesday as the GNLA had attack a petrol pump at Charingre village in West Garo hills district on at around 8.30 am followed by another attack on the Meghalaya Police Radio Office (MPRO) at a neigbouring village Darinchegre.

Earlier immediately after the attack on petrol pump and the MPRO office, Meghalaya DGP Peter Hanneman had said that the GNLA was attacking only soft targets. He said it was obviously the militants’ outfit was under pressure after the security forces had launched an operation against them and the militants were retaliating by choosing soft target.

Two persons were also injured during the attack by the GNLA on the petrol pump. Both have been admitted in hospital and their condition is stated to be quite serious.- By Our Reporter
