would be wiped out from Garo hills.

“Presently there are two NPP MLAs in the state, in the next two years, I will work across the state to ensure that the NPP is buried”, he said at an election rally in Dagal Apal village under Songsak constituency in East Garo hills.

Dagal Apal village is an NPP stronghold, which is represented by Nihim D. Shira in the state assembly. Apart from Nihim, NPP president Conrad K. Sangma’s elder brother James is a legislator from Dadenggre constituency.

Mukul has been campaigning across different parts of the Garo hills for the past seven days and today touched East Garo Hills. Apart from Dagal Apal, he addressed an election rally at Mangsang under Rongjeng constituency.

The rally at Rongjeng and Williamnagar had to be cancelled due to inclement weather.

Seeking mandate for Congress candidate Dikkanchi D. Shira, the chief minister said, “NPP is creating confusion by targeting Congress government, which has been working tirelessly to ensure all round development in the state”.

He said that NPP candidate Conrad K. Sangma during his tenure as finance minister in 2008-09 had scrapped several development projects, which were sanctioned by the earlier Congress government.

“He (Conrad) lack vision and scrapped the projects because Congress would have been credited for those achievements”, the chief minister asserted.

Speaking at length on power projects, which were scrapped, the chief minister said, “If the projects could have been completed, the state would have earned revenue and the problem of power would have been addressed, apart from creating job opportunities”.

He said that the people across the country are waiting for the end of BJP rule.

“The BJP rule has created chaos in the country. They are dividing the nation for their hidden agenda. If conflict exist between the majority and minority, they will continue to get votes from the majority”, said the chief minister, urging the electorates to give verdict in Congress candidate’s favour, so that the party can be strengthened in the centre.

He also attacked NPP candidate Conrad for his inability to fulfill the demand for creation of new district of North Garo Hills during their tenure. He said that his government in 2012 ensured that four new districts were created.

“We have been able to create new districts, new blocks and sub-divisions but Conrad during his tenure failed to do so. They had said they have no fund. It was their inability to bring about development”, he added.

He also enlightened the crowd that it was because of Conrad’s complaint with the Election Commission of India that an amount of Rs. 300 crore under MGNREGS pending for the state was not sanctioned.

“He (Conrad) played politics because if the pending amount for the wages were released, it would have boosted the image of the government”, the chief minister stated.-From Our Correspondent
