SHILLONG, SEPT 17: In a twist to the rape and murder of the twenty-seven year girl Ibansara Mawrie, police are investigating whether the accused Ricky Mawrie had accomplices who are also involved in committing the gruesome crime even as the mother and relatives of the victim said that they wanted the accused, who is the relative of the murdered girl, to get maximum punishment.

Even as she clarified that her late daughter was called from the house by Ricky Mawrie on that fateful day, Yoana Mawrie- mother of the victim- said her daughter had not gone on her own but was called by the accused. She said, “After that she disappeared.”  Accompanied by her relatives she told reporters in a news conference on Thursday that she wanted the accused to get the maximum punishment. She said, “Even though he is related he must get the maximum punishment under the law.”

East Khasi hills police had arrested Ricky Mawrie, known as Bah Bah Psyco, on Tuesday last. He reportedly confessed to the police that he had raped and murdered Ibansara Mawrie- who is her aunty.

However police are not taking his confession that he alone had raped and murdered her. East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang said that police investigation is wide based and they are also looking into the possibility of involvement of others in the rape and murder of the girl. Initially Ricky Mawrie had claimed that he had kept the girl in the house of one Roshan Gurung at Law-u-Sib but the police could not find anyone by that name and even the relatives of the deceased said that no one by that name was staying in that locality.

According to the police Ricky Mawrie has two cases in Rynjah police station. It is purported that Ricky Mawrie have had friend with criminals. Kharkrang informed that though the police have not come across of the accused being part of any ‘gang’ but investigation will also hovers around the possibilities of a loose relationship between him and other criminals. He said that the police is not taking what he is saying as a ‘gospel truth.’– By Our Reporter
