SHILLONG, MAY 18: Former Lok Sabha speaker and Tura Lok Sabha MP Purno Agitok Sangma said that the need of people from road connectivity to school buildings few years ago has now changed to “mobile tower” as he receives lot or request for setting up the tower wherever he goes.

Speaking at the Sanchar Seva Padak Award 2015 of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Monday in Shillong, Sangma said that as the north eastern region is surrounded by international borders, the union government, therefore, must look to the questioned of connectivity from different perspective even as he urged for better mobile connectivity in the region.

“Connectivity is important especially in a region like North East,” Sangma said. He informed that because of the problem of connectivity, people of the state living along the International border are using mobile network from Bangladesh.

Congratulating the efforts of union government to improve connectivity in the region, Sangma said, “The government and the BSNL have sanctioned up to Rs 5300 crores for expanding the network connectivity in the region.”

Extending his wishes to the BSNL and the awardees, Sangma said, “Leadership is very important and that an honest leader who is dedicated brings in an excellent team.”- By Our Reporter
