TURA,MAY 12: At least 200 youth workers of National People’s Party (NPP) today joined the Congress in presence of president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) DD Lapang and working president Deborah C. Marak. They pledged their support for the Congress party, while the MPCC top brass were at Samanda to seek mandate for Congress candidate Dikkanchi D. Shira.

Some of the prominent NPP youth faces from Samanda, who joined Congress party are – Windar Marak, Helgiph Marak, Essao Marak, Siljeng Sangma and Mingthe Marak.

Meanwhile In North Garo Hills, the block president of NPP Mendipathar unit BD Shira and state general secretary Digross D. Shira resigned from the party.

“I resign from the party today on personal grounds. As a young, aspiring politician I want to begin working on the grass-root level for my career and as such I want to do it independently,” said Digross.

However, Shira said that they were unhappy with senior Congress leader and former minister Frankenstein W Momin, who had joined NPP recently at Mendipathar, along with 60 others from Congress and other regional parties.-From Our Correspondent
