NPP slams govt on mining

SHILLONG, JULY 14: Opposition National People’s Party (NPP) on Friday slammed the Mukul led state government for its failure to submit the Mining Plan to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) despite the economic crisis the state is going through.

“There is an apparent lack of concern on the part of the Government of Meghalaya to draft and submit the guidelines in the form of the Mining Plan to the National Green Tribunal (NGT),” NPP spokesperson James K Sangma said.

According to him, the state government failure comes even after the directive of the NGT instructing it to submit the Mining Plan within a stipulated time.

NPP further alleged that the Congress government seems to be deliberately delaying the submission of the Mining plan for reasons best known to them.

Stating that this simple process of drafting and submitting the plan should not have taken more than 3 months, Sangma said, “We fail to understand this form of apathy on the part of Dr. Mukul’s government given the economic crisis that the state is going through considering the huge loss in revenue due to the ban on coal mining.”-By Our Reporter
