Nongstoin, Dec 19:Police rescued a nokma (headman) Heading Momin Wednesday from the clutches of the Liberation of A’chik Elite Force (LAEF) militants from the hideout where he had been kept under captivity from November

Momin had been kidnapped by the LAEF militants from Jogisil under Shallang area.

Momin, however, was rescued only after a gun-battle between the West Khasi hills and East Garo hills joint police operation and the LAEF militants that lasted only for about five minutes as the militants sensing that they will be overpowered by the police team fled their camp in Songsak in East Garo hills district.

In the melee, Momin was left behind by the militants who themselves were in pressure to escape from the police net.
