TURA, JUNE 8:  The Garo Students Union (GSU) has called for 12 hours Non Cooperation Movement (NCM) on June 12 and 13 to protest against the government failure to meet their demands relating to the twin custodial deaths and failure of the government to pay compensation to a fake police encounter victim who was killed four years agon.

The GSU has also decided to support the Mothers’ Union public rally to be held on June 10 at Chandmari playground relating to the ex gratia payment to the late Jospin M Sangma’s family.

The NCM on June 12 and 13 which is observed as bandh will be effective from 5 am to 5 pm on both the days.

With regard to the ex gratia payment to the family of Jospin M Sangma who was shot death my militants in Garo hills, the student body is demanding enhancement from Rs 1 lakh the government announced to Rs. 15 lakh.

The student body is also peeved at the government failure to meet various of the GSU and other organizations demands with regard to the twin custodial deaths recently and the failure of the government to provide compensation to the next of kin of late Washington N. Marak, who was killed in a fake encounter by police four years ago. The National Human Rights Commission had directed government to release the compensation.- From Our Correspondent
