Raid Laban felicitates meritorious students

raid-labanSHILLONG, SEPT 21: Two hundred and eighty eight meritorious students were felicitated at the 10th Literary Award 2013 organized by the Raid Laban Sports, Social and Cultural Organization in collaboration with Meghalaya government  at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Saturday.

The theme for the award ceremony is “Education is not preparation for life, Education is life itself”.

The award ceremony includes for physically handicapped, visually impaired, hearing impaired and drop-out students belonging to poor BPL families. This was followed by presentation of laptop sets to the topper students of 19th South Shillong constituency in 12 different categories such as SSLC (boys and girls), HSSLC (boys and girls), BPL (boys and girls), ISC X, XII, CBSE X, XII, graduates and post graduates

Hundashisha Syiemlieh from BPL category and a student of Lawsohtun Presbyterian Secondary School and Pratiksha Mishra, physically handicapped, from Fernando Speech and Hearing Centre, Umiam were among the toppers awarded with laptop.

Sanbor Shullai, deputy speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and President of the organization grace the occasion along with host of dignitaries representing various schools and colleges

FR Kharkongor, secretary of the state education department, who grace the occasion as the chief guest, congratulated the meritorious students for their achievement in different examinations as well as the organizers for recognizing the unique talents of the young students. He further stated that the three As –Aspiration, Action and Achievement is needed for excellence and success is achieved by nurturing aspiration, and by investing time and effort in their studies.

Kharkongor also said that the students should not only excel in professional fields but should be able to contribute to the society with their expertise in this competitive world of today. He said, “This felicitation ceremony will be a source of inspiration to the students’ community and will encourage them to march forward in life for their better future career.”- By Our Reporter
