SHILLONG, AUG 21: Union minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju accused the Congress and Communist party for disrupting parliament thereby snatching away the rights of majority of more than 480 MPs besides affecting the growth of the nation.

“The 44 Congress MPs and 9 Communist MPs in the Lok Sabha have disrupted parliament and in the process snatched away the rights of majority of more than 480 MPs,” Rijiju told reporters on Friday.

Rijjiju, who was in the state’s capital, to attend the Cooperative Submit for development of NE region said the NDA government led by Narendra Modi has decided to tell the people of the country about the truth and the evil design of the Congress in disrupting the parliament and wasting the natural resources.

According to him, the BJP led government at the centre has also decided to hold press conference on the issue in all Congress ruled states including Meghalaya.

“It becomes incumbent on the part of the government to explain to the people of the country how a complete session has been washed out. It is very expensive to run the parliament which involves crore of rupees a day,” he said.

Stating that important reforms like GST, Land Compensation Act, and all other important issues and critical legislations are pending in the parliament due to the uncalled disruption, Rijiju said, “Not a single legislative business could be taken up in the last monsoon session.”

“You can imagine how much it is affecting the growth of this country. Aiming for the growth of our economy at about 8 per cent but the house disruption has caused a great difficulty in taking forward the reforms programme of the government,” he said adding “We want to convey to the people of Meghalaya that it is not a fault but it is totally a ‘flimsy ground’ based on which the Congress and Communist party disrupted the parliament.”

Referring to the assessment on the just concluded parliament session made by NDA government, he said that main reason for disruption of the parliament was the opposition parties’ rigorous demand for the resignation of the Minister for External Affairs Shushma Swaraj, which was not genuine at all.

He further claimed that in the last 15 months of the NDA government, not a single union minister has been charged of corruption of even a single paise.- By Our Reporter
